Stay Woke

Merriam -Webster defined Woke as : aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice) They Stated the term Woke' is increasingly used as a byword for social awareness.

But stay woke and woke became part of a wider discussion in 2014, immediately following the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. The word woke became entwined with the Black Lives Matter movement; instead of just being a word that signaled awareness of injustice or racial tension, it became a word of action. Activists were woke and called on others to stay woke. Stay woke became a watch word in parts of the black community for those who were self-aware, questioning the dominant paradigm and striving for something better. Long before there was a twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or a you, God had already told us to Stay Woke. You see the world sees stay woke as a political, racial, educational, social thing. But it is spiritual and if we get right in the spirit the rest will follow.

Ephesians 5:14 ESV

For anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore, it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

Luke 21:36 ESV

But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are

going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

Matthew 24:42 ESV

Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.

So, what does Stay Woke really means: It means be spiritual-minded, it means be alert, it means be ready, it means have wisdom. It means you can’t truly be woke or stay woke without Jesus. Romans 8:11 says: But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. So, what is the scripture saying it saying when The Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead in dwells you will come alive, you will awake. Awake from the long sleep that you were in.

When the holy Spirit comes it wakes up our spirit man. We were dead and now we are alive. We begin to see things differently. God wants us to stay woke in the spirt realm. The Message Bible Says in 1 Peter 5:8: Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. We can’t be caught sleeping in the spirit realm. Keep yourself woke in Jesus. Read your word, study it, pray and seek God’s face like never before. Stay Woke!
