How Music Affects Us
There is something profound, powerful, phenomenal, unfathomable, mesmerizing, mysterious, and just simply amazing about music. Music has the power to transport our minds and imaginations to another time or place. This is why you have to be careful about what enters your ear gates. Music changes us and transforms us. It changes our mood from sad to happy or even from happy to sad. Music brings us joy and sometimes move us to tears. It can lift the spirit up and it can take the spirit down. In the book of 1 Samuel Chapter 16 Saul had a tormenting spirit and the only way he received relief was through David playing the harp. 22And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, “Let David remain in my service, for he has found favor in my sight.” 23And whenever the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, David took the lyre and played it with his hand; so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him. This lets us know that music can affect our mood. We have heard of stories about kids being affected by heavy metal or hip-hop music. They say, “the song made me do it.” If you hear something long enough you start to become it. If it is about death, disrespect of women, selling drugs, or about buying the most expense things. We begin to believe it. We have to remember our enemy, Lucifer, satan, the devil whatever you want to call him was created as a beautiful and wise archangel, an anointed cherub, and music was an integral part of his being. So, the enemy wants to us Music to distract, dishearten, and manipulate us. Don’t let him in through a song. We have to listen to right kind of music. The kind that takes us into worship of our god, uplifts, and brings joy. Music is a vital part of heaven and the throne of God. It has been part of the worship and praise of God since the beginning. Music is a gift. It’s a wonderful gift. But it has to used in the way God attend for it to be used. We offer back this gift to our Creator also as a gift by our singing and praising. Music has the power to bring the mind, body, and spirit in unison as we reach out to God. So, the next time you turn on the radio or listen to a song make sure it’s something you can listen to in God’s presence.
